Lu'ma Native Housing Society, formerly known as the Vancouver Indian Centre Housing Society, was incorporated in the Province of British Columbia on May 25, 1980. In 1987, the Society changed its name to Lu'ma (meaning "New Beginnings" in Coast Salish).

Over the past twenty six (26) years Lu'ma has successfully developed a significant number of projects in Vancouver, owning and operating a housing portfolio of over 250 units.

Lu'ma has a dedicated volunteer board of directors from the Aboriginal community and staff of approximately twenty-eight (28) individuals.

The Society's main source of funding comes from thirty-five (35) year operating agreements with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), and BC Housing.

Lu'ma is also Host Agency for federal funding for BC Homelessness Initiatives.

As such, is responsible for allocating funding province wide to address Aboriginal Homelessness.

The Society opened the first Aboriginal Patients' Lodge in BC in October, 2004 as a part of the Lu'ma BCH Society's Art Zoccole Aboriginal Patients' Lodge and Housing Project at 1254 East 8th Avenue.
