Job Title: Housekeeper
Employment Type: Casual, Permanent
Location: 1254 East 8th Ave, Vancouver.
This role is to be performed onsite. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position.
Schedule: Casual/ On Call 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Work Hour: Casual/ On Call
Pay: $31.56 per hour plus a percentage in lieu of Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Vacation, Benefits and Optional RRSP as per the COPE 378 Collective Agreement. Wage inclusive of the in-lieu amount is $36.61 per hour.
Union: This position requires union membership.

Lu’ma is a Coast Salish word for “new beginnings.” Lu’ma offers a wide range of programs, services and other initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty, improving the overall health of the urban Indigenous community and responding to the evolving needs of Indigenous peoples.
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Lodge Coordinator or designate, the Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and comfort within short-term accommodation units for medical patients and their families.
This role supports a welcoming, respectful, and culturally safe environment for Indigenous patients and guests, and requires a strong commitment to cleanliness, hospitality, and trauma-informed service.
Responsibilities
Guest Support & Hospitality
· Establish and maintain respectful, positive relationships with patients, families, and guests.
· Provide orientation to new guests, including lodge facilities, shared living expectations, and safety guidelines.
· Respond promptly and respectfully to guest needs and service requests.
· Support a welcoming and culturally safe environment through open and respectful communication.
· Assist guests with basic use of suite features and appliances when required.
Housekeeping & Cleaning Duties
· Perform routine and deep cleaning of guest suites and common areas, including but not limited to:
o Removing refuse and recycling;
o Dusting and cleaning furnishings and fixtures;
o Disinfecting high-touch surfaces;
o Cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, and appliances;
o Vacuuming, mopping, and floor care;
o Cleaning windows, walls, baseboards, and surfaces;
o Making beds and replenishing supplies;
· Complete scheduled suite cleaning as per the Routine Room Clean Checklist.
· Conduct full turnover cleaning of suites following guest check-out using the Check-Out Checklist.
· Maintain cleanliness of shared spaces, including the Amenity Room and kitchen.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, ensuring proper storage and handling of chemicals in accordance with WHMIS and occupational health and safety requirements.
· Identify and report maintenance issues, hazards, or safety concerns to the Lodge Coordinator or designate.
· Respond to building emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
· Support a safe environment by monitoring access and permitting entry only to authorized individuals.
Teamwork & Workplace Conduct
· Work collaboratively as part of the housekeeping team to meet cleanliness and service standards.
· Maintain professional, respectful, and non-judgmental communication with coworkers and guests.
· De-escalate conflicts or crisis situations using trauma-informed approaches.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Certifications:
Certificate in a related field and/or relevant skill-based training.
Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or equivalent) certificate, WHMIS certificate.
Experiences:
· Minimum one (1) year of housekeeping experience.
· Experience working with Indigenous communities or within an Indigenous organization considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety practices and trauma informed communication.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and non-judgmental in challenging situations.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with a team, with strong attention to detail and organization.
Ability to manage stress and respond effectively in emergencies or high-pressure situations.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity of all guests.
Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and accountability.
Physical Demands
· Physically able to perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout a 7-hour shift.
· Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stair use.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
Working Conditions
· Exposure to cleaning chemicals and bodily fluids; appropriate PPE will be provided.
· Work is performed in a residential lodge environment serving patients and families undergoing medical treatment.

· A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record clearance.
