Job Title: Tenant Support Worker.
Employment Type: Temporary, Part-Time. (The maximum term of this employment will not exceed six (6) months and will end upon the early return of the employee on leave or the completion of six (6) months.)
Location: 435 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC.
This role is to be performed onsite. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position.
Schedule: 3:30pm to 12:00am, Statutory and Lu’ma Paid Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Work Hour: 16-hour work week
Pay: $31.56/hour plus a percentage in-lieu of Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Vacation, Benefits and Optional RRSP as per the COPE 378 Collective Agreement. Wage inclusive of in-lieu amount is $36.61/hour.
Union: This position requires union membership.
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Tenant Support Worker provides non-judgmental support, advocacy and resource information to residents.
Responsibilities
· Establish and maintain a positive relationship with residents and former residents while maintaining respectful open communication;
· Familiarize new residents with the various program sites including the physical environments and guidelines for living communally and works to facilitate positive relationships between residents;
· Provide information regarding options and alternatives including information about income assistance, legal services, health and mental wellness issues, drug and alcohol services, housing and other resources as requested;
· Support residents in their interactions with various systems, such as the Health Care, Child and Family Services, Income Assistance, and Criminal Justice Systems, as required, as well as acting as a liaison and advocate with respect to those same systems;
· Collaborate with partner agencies;
· Support residents to develop plans and goals including safety plans, housing plans, education or employment plans;
· Deescalate conflicts or crises when they arise;
· Provide group support, including facilitation of conflict resolution between residents and groups of residents;
· Permit entry to only those people approved to have access to enter the building;
· Respond to building emergencies;
· Facilitate recreational activities with residents;
· Respond to overdoses of residents and guests including the administration of naloxone when an overdose occurs;
· Provide First Aid and CPR measures when an injury or health emergency occurs with a resident, guest or staff;
· Work in cooperation with the Building Service Worker and Homemaker to ensure cleanliness of suites and the common areas of the building;
· Complete facility rounds as per the site schedule;
· Report any maintenance or other building issues or safety concerns to the program manager, or designate;
· And all other related duties.
Qualifications
· A degree, diploma or certificate in a related subject and/or relevant skill-based training;
· Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1(or equivalent), Mental Health First Aid, Food Safe Level 1(or equivalent), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/MANDT, Naloxone and WHMIS certificates are required;
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a front-line support worker in low barrier supportive housing or programs with people who have complex needs and who are struggling with poverty and homelessness;
· An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered;
· Strong knowledge of the histories of the Indigenous Peoples’ of these lands, including their unique and diverse traditions, cultures, ceremonies, and medicines;
· Strong knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety practices;
· Must be open to working with people who are struggling with substance use and/or mental & spiritual wellness;
· Must understand and be comfortable working within a Harm Reduction framework;
· Strong and effective communication skills (reading, writing and speaking);
· Ability to work effectively with program staff, community partners and residents, including being non-judgmental in trying situations and demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills;
· Ability to work under pressure and manage stresses and crises is required.

About Lu’ma Medical Centre Society:
Lu’ma Medical Centre Society (LMCS) is an interdisciplinary primary care clinic that provides holistic, culturally safe and integrated primary care for Indigenous families. We provide a safe, welcoming environment for individuals and families as they address their health and healing. LMCS provides health care and health promotion services through attachment to a primary care provider. Additionally, LMCS provides access and connection to Traditional Healers, Elders, Medical Specialists, RNs, Mental Health Counsellors, Social Navigators, and Dietitians. Our interdisciplinary team works closely together to create a circle of care that bridges traditional Indigenous and Western worldviews of health and healing and meets the diverse needs of our Community Members. We promote continuity in healthcare relationships by supporting team members who are committed to long-term careers at LMCS.
Position Summary:
The Operations and Wellness Director (OWD) is integral to the operations of Lu’ma Medical Centre Society (LMCS). They establish and maintain the operational framework and infrastructure of LMCS while leading and supporting an interdisciplinary team that delivers safe, culturally integrated primary care. The OWD coordinates the overall operational management of programs and services within LMCS. The OWD collaborates closely with the Medical Director to ensure alignment between strategic objectives, operational plans, the LMCS team-based model and the direct delivery of care. In addition, they develop, implement, lead, evaluate, and maintain the culturally safe, wellness programming and services. They work in consultation with the Lu’ma Cultural Committee, to ensure our services and programs respect important cultural protocols and promote inclusivity for all urban Indigenous community members. The OWD reports to the CEO, along with other leadership team members.
Primary Accountability:
The Operations and Wellness Director is responsible for overseeing clinic operations. They provide support, supervision, and leadership to all departments within Lu’ma Medical Centre Society (LMCS). They work in collaboration with the Medical Director, Leadership Team, to ensure safe and efficient clinic operations, strong staff support, financial stewardship, and the development and implementation of effective policies and guidelines. The OWD oversees policy and workplace development, staff relations, community member concerns, recruitment and hiring, budget allocation, and clinic processes.
Responsibilities:
Clinic Operations and Leadership
·Collaborates with leadership team and wider interdisciplinary team members on planning and development of clinic operations
·Fosters a respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally safe workplace environment
·Facilitates meetings, and open respectful communication with the clinic and between team members to foster an environment of support, collaboration, and continuity of care
·Provides support to staff and team leads as required, to assist with departmental management and planning
·Effectively addresses and resolves day to day challenges and complaints to ensure the safety of team members and community members, and the ongoing efficiency of clinic operations
·Effectively and appropriately responds and follows up with staff complaints and incidents
·Collaborates with Medical Director and Operations Manager to provide absence approvals and to manage staff timecards
·Supports each department to ensure operating needs are in place (i.e. policies, guidelines, supplies, etc.)
·Provides direct supervision for interdisciplinary team
Financial, Budgetary, and Administrative
·Leads, develops, manages, and assumes responsibility for the clinic’s operating budget. Ensures resources are allocated efficiently and budgets are maintained
·Tracks medical provider MSP billing, rejections, and attachment codes for the clinic
·Works collaboratively with leadership team to manage vendor and contractor invoices ensuring timely approval and payment
Prepares, delivers and presents financial, operating, and clinical reports to our LMCS Board of Directors, quarterly, and as required to core strategic partners
·Attends regular meetings with our LMCS Board of Directors
Planning and Workplace Development
·Supports the development of handbooks, operational policies, procedures, and guidelines within that align with the values and priorities of LMCS
·Supports recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management of team members
·Reports to CEO on operations, achievements, challenges, and risk mitigation
·Ensures day to day operations align with the clinic’s long term strategic priorities and overall vision.
Relationship Building and Partnerships
·Builds and strengthens partnerships with our core strategic partners, including FNHA, FNAPCN and the Ministry of Health – participates in regular meetings with our core partners
Engages with external organizations, including allied clinics, Indigenous health social service agencies, health authorities, government agencies and our host nations
·Participates in hosting external organizations and partners for tours and clinic visits
Collaborates with Medical Director on external speaking engagements and opportunities to present on our clinic model.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:
The Operations and Wellness Director holds a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or related field from an accredited postsecondary institution (Master’s degree preferred) and has demonstrated substantial experience in healthcare leadership. They possess the skills and experience required to lead an interdisciplinary healthcare team using an inclusive and culturally-informed approach. They ensure that LMCS’s community members and staff are supported, safe, listened to, and valued. They also enable staff with the tools, training and resources needed to provide integrated, compassionate care.
Qualifications
·Strong knowledge of the histories of the Indigenous Peoples’ of these lands, including their unique and diverse traditions, cultures, ceremonies, and medicines
·Strong knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety practices
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, other clinical professional degree or related field (master’s preferred) along with leadership training and/or experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
·5+ years of experience working in healthcare leadership, preferably in Indigenous health and/or primary care.
·Experience living and/or working in Indigenous communities and/or working with Indigenous-led organizations strongly preferred
·Lived experience in and/or extensive earned knowledge about Indigenous health systems and Indigenous cultural approaches to health and healing strongly preferred
·References attesting to skills, knowledge, and abilities as described
