Kitchen Coordinator - PT

Lu’ma Native BCH Housing Society is seeking to fill the position of Kitchen Coordinator on a Permanent Part-Time basis at the Western Street Supportive Housing program for the DAY shift; 9:00 am until 5:30 pm, Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.

 

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager or Designate, the Kitchen Coordinator’s primary role consists of the planning, coordination and delivery of all aspects of the kitchen such as meal planning, meal preparation, budgeting, and placing orders from distributors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop, facilitate and implement a community kitchen program;

· Facilitate and plan meetings with the participation of residents;

· Develop weekly and monthly menus and cooking schedules;

·Ensure the kitchen has the necessary supplies, within budget constraints;

· Ensure the kitchen meets Health & Safety standards;

· Assist and/or coordinate serving meals and kitchen clean-up;

· Liaise with the building community partnerships;

· Develop, improve and grow the program;

· Prepare nutritious meals, lunches, dinners and snacks for residents;

· Prepare and maintain selection of pastries and daily dessert menu items.

 

Qualifications/Skills & Abilities:

· Superior interpersonal Communication skills;

· Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills;

· Knowledge of and skills to work with residents who struggle with substance use;

· Understanding of Harm Reduction within the context of supportive housing;

· A degree, diploma or certificate in a related discipline and/or relevant workplace experience;

· A Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or equivalent); Food Safe Level 1 (or equivalent), WHMIS and Naloxone certifcates;

· Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or equivalent is an asset;

· All positions subject to a satisfying a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Clearance.

Hours and Remuneration:

• Part-Time position, 16-hours work week with a half hour unpaid meal break; 9:00 am until 5:30 pm, Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Saturdays and Sundays .

• Wage $28.61 per hour plus 12% in-lieu of Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Benefits plans and programs, and Optional RRSP plan. Vacation will be earned at six percent of gross earnings. Vacation is accessible after one year of employment. Sick and other paid leaves awarded on a pro rata basis. Wage inclusive of the in-lieu amount is $32.05 per hour.
